Bright Light City

We just got back from a 5-day photography convention in Las Vegas and let me just say that it was intense! Every day was jam-packed with amazing seminars by fantastic and inspirational speakers, while the evenings were filled with plenty of social time getting to know our fellow photographers from around the world. The best part though, was hanging out and having fun with the other photographers from right here in Vancouver (yes, the "competition!") I honestly think there were more photographers from Vancouver than any other city represented at the convention (we counted up to 25 and then lost count). I am truly proud that there is so much talent in our beautiful city and that there were so many attending the convention, all in an effort to improve our craft and elevate our work to an even higher level. Totally fantastic!

One of the convention days was spent out in a desert lake bed, about 30 minutes outside of the Las Vegas strip. We attended a demonstration shoot by two incredibly talented American photographers, John Michael Cooper and David Beckstead. We got to watch as they shot some amazing images of a very gorgeous bride and groom and a '64 red convertible Thunderbird. As they shot they narrated and talked about their techniques and inspiration, which we found fascinating. We also got to shoot a few pics "over their shoulders" so to speak, which are posted below. It was a fabulous location and an excellent and interactive seminar!

We also do....

portraits! Maybe you didn't know that we offer family portraits, maternity portraits, child portraits - all this on top of wedding photography. Our portrait sessions aren't like those stuffy Sears-style stand-and-grins - our portrait sessions are FUN! How are our sessions fun, you ask? Well, for starters we only shoot on location - that could be your own home, a beach, a park, an urban cityscape, or just about anywhere that has some personal meaning for you. Our sessions are relaxed and natural, and the result is images that are unique and beautiful. If you are interested in booking a portrait session with us, please feel free to email us or call at 604.277.7452.

Raff and Christine - February 17, 2007

What can I say about Christine and Raff's wedding except "so cool" - of course, that's a bit of an understatement for a groom who wore a gold suit! Raff looked very sharp in his custom-made attire, with a purple shirt and ivory tie to match the wedding colours. Christine looked amazing in a unique gown of ivory silk and organza frills, accented by purple and gold jewellery. This wedding was totally about personal style - everything had been created by the bride and groom, right down to the beautiful flower ball bouquets, which Christine made. After hearing about Raff and Christine's plans over the past few months, it was really neat to see their wedding vision come together. Thank you for having us photograph your day and congrats to you both!

Marley and Moxie

Chris and I share our lives with our two fur children - okay, they are cats, but to us they're like little people! I thought it would be neat to mention them on our blog, simply because they are such a big part of our lives. Marley is our big fluff ball (he's 6 years old and weighs about 14 pounds!) and Moxie is our little sweetheart (she's about 10 months old). They both have distinctive personalities, different likes and dislikes - just like your average person! It's fascinating to watch them interact with each other and with us, and our relationship with them has been nothing less than rewarding.

Chris and I have been animal lovers since we were kids, and have had many pets throughout our lives. The one common factor to all our experiences with pets is that they ground us. Sometimes in our crazy lives problems can seem so big and overwhelming - and yet these things are diminished as soon as I hug one of our furry little companions. The simple sound of a purring cat can comfort and reassure you on the most stressful of days, and their crazy antics will make you laugh no matter what you might be feeling. They are wonderful creatures, and we are better for knowing them.

A Shout-Out to Posh Wed Pod

We are so proud to be part of a new and exciting bridal resource! The Posh Wedding Podcast Network (www.poshwedpod.com) presents a new way to search for your perfect wedding vendor. Not only can you check out several vendors at once, but you actually get to watch an interview with each of them in podcast form! The benefits of this resource are so cool - for one, you get an idea of the vendors' personality by watching their interview, something that isn't fully conveyed through a simple website. In addition, you can download each podcast interview to your iPod and watch it on the go (of course, you can watch it online too) - this means you can plan your wedding while you're working out, walking the dog, or making breakfast - multi-tasking at its best! There are lots of fabulous decorators, florists, cake artists and many more contributing interviews to the Posh Wedding Podcast Network, so check it out at www.poshwedpod.com and enjoy!

Happy 2007!

Just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a very happy new year! It's at this time that we reflect back over the past year, and I must say 2006 was a great one. A very big thanks goes out to our clients, our friends, our family, and our fellow photographers for making this our best year ever! Our business just keeps growing and getting more exciting by the day, and we greatly appreciate the support! We are already 50% booked for the coming season, which we take as indication that 2007 will easily top 2006!

Alison and Rod - November 25, 2006

What a perfect way to end our year! Alison and Rod's day was simply amazing - it was the first wedding we have ever done when it was actually snowing. I have to give full credit to Alison for braving the freezing cold in a stunning strapless gown - after seeing the images, we agreed that her risking pneumonia was worth it! Picture this if you will: the ceremony ends, the happy couple walk back down the aisle together, the bells are ringing, and they step outside a charming little church into the snow just starting to fall - how great is that? And it actually happend at Alison and Rod's wedding! After the ceremony we proceeded to Quilchena Golf and Country Club, which was fully decorated to compliment the approach of Christmas. When the photo session was finished, it was off to the reception to party and be merry! Thanks again to Alison and Rod for having us photograph your wedding - it was truly a wonderful way to end 2006!

Kristi and Martin - Engagement Session

Kristi and Martin are a very cute couple, and we had a great time photographing them around Granville Island. As with Jenn and Scott's session (see post below this one), Kristi and Martin's session had been rained out - several times! Finally the weather got a little better and we were able to do this session (I think it was our fourth try at getting a non-rainy day!) By their own admission, Kristi and Martin are a little camera shy, which in fact makes them the perfect example of why we do engagement sessions: to get our clients used to being in front of the camera so that they are totally at ease on their big day! Think of the engagement session as the "photography rehearsal" for the wedding!

Jenn and Scott - Engagement Session

Ahh, you gotta love this time of year - rain, rain, and more rain! After rescheduling their engagement session due to rain, Jenn and Scott finally got a day where it was decent for a while - and then of course, it rained! Fortunately our session was pretty much finished by the time the skies opened up, so we had ample opportunities to make some great images of this couple. When Jenn initially contacted us about wedding photography, I knew her name sounded familiar - turns out we went to the same school and graduated a year apart! Jenn and Scott's wedding is in May, a month which doesn't see much rain compared to November (fingers crossed!)

Gary and Tiffany - Engagement Session

I love shooting sessions in the fall, and Gary and Tiffany's was a perfect example! Although it was pretty late in the season, there were still plenty of gorgeous fall colours at Queen Elizabeth Park. The sun lit up the red and yellow leaves beautifully, creating just the right ambience for Gary and Tiffany's images. We even did some neat shots of these two cuddling in the leaves - which wasn't easy, considering they were lying on our reflector disc and it didn't provide much insulation from the freezing cold concrete beneath it! We had a lot of fun with Gary and Tiffany and we're very much looking forward to their wedding in April!
